The optimization of a EMA system (Electro-Mechanical Actuator) consisting of two main components, recirculating ball screw and electric motor is presented. The aim of the optimization is to find a consistent set of design “optimum” considering the main parameters, such as efficiency, mass, maximum force. To achieve the goal several optimization algorithms have been tested, the results of which will be shown and discussed. All the work was done by integrating the optimization software modeFRONTIER with the electrical design Maxwell and a Umbra proprietary code FALICOST.
