European Commission has committed to allocate 700M€ for a Public Private Partnership (PPP) on HPC under the H2020 research programme. It will be a significant opportunity for the users, technology providers and application developers of HPC in EU to work together for European competitiveness.
Critical mass of investment remains a challenge, in part due to fragmentation across EU countries. Many existing High Performance Computing (HPC) applications are not optimised for big machines and for new requirements. There is insufficient European-level pooling and sharing of resources and overall scarcity of HPC resources.
Many SMEs and public sector actors are not aware of possibilities offered by computing infrastructures, and skill shortages of HPC are serious concerns for research and businesses.
The presentation will address the steps European Commission is taking to address these challenges.
